My Story
Why did you choose to run?
I have been involved as a volunteer in Port Lavaca for many years and am running to be elected to the City Council to have an ability to participate in the actions of the Council.
Having been involved in community service organizations for decades, I understand the complex trade-offs when best prioritizing what can be done with limited resources. I don’t believe that previous councils have always made the best decisions.
I chose to run for the City Council to contribute to the city in a way that would involve my business and volunteer experience. I believe that I can and will bring common sense to the city government and ensure money is spent appropriately and in ways to most benefit everyone.
What is your platform?
My promise to you is to make the voices of District 1 heard. I will ensure that the city uses common sense and good judgment in setting its priorities and budgets carefully.
My slogan is “Fighting for you.”
Main goal you would like to accomplish?
I want to help the city grow its resources and amenities, and most of all, its tax base, so that annual tax increases can be limited and residents get more return on the taxes they pay.
I will be actively involved with District 1 residents and will promise to listen to those who live in this district.
What do you see as the city’s biggest problem and what solutions do you have?
The city of Port Lavaca needs additional population and tourism.
Rather than burdening our residents with additional taxes, I believe we must focus on bringing in outside investments from professional developers. I will use my business experience to ensure we negotiate fair agreements that benefit the city and residents as well as the developers.
What is the city’s best asset and how can it be better utilized?
The city of Port Lavaca has over four miles of water frontage, much of which is under-developed. Better developing this huge asset will grow our tax base and our appeal to current and future residents and businesses. Further the city of Port Lavaca must continue to attract good tenants to its property who will utilize the waterfront property for goods and services. While serving on the Port Commission, I have helped the port more than double its revenue.
Why should people vote for you?
I am asking for our District to vote for me so I can continue to support our community, bring common sense to the city government, and ensure money is spent appropriately and in ways to most benefit everyone. I am community-focused and believe that all successes start in our homes, schools, churches, and local communities.
I have extensive experience both in business and as a volunteer in our community. As the City Harbor (mostly) and the City Harbor of Refuge is in District 1, I believe my experience will help our district and city increase its appeal to attract new business investment and development in Port Lavaca.
I have been involved with CCISD for more than 30 years as founder and chairman of the Partners in Education. I was chairman of the Charter committee which wrote the current city charter. I have been actively serving on the City Port Commission since 2017. I am a Texas PE and studied engineering at Texas A&M University.
I founded and am still involved with WinSim Inc., a Texas engineering software company that develops and supports software for the refinery and chemical industries.
