My Story

What are the top two priorities for your precinct, and how would you advocate for them at the commissioners court level?
The top priority in my precinct is completing the Magnolia Beach Fire Station. With decades of experience in public emergency services, I know how critical it is for our first responders to have the right tools, safe facilities, and reliable infrastructure. This station is not just a building; it’s an investment in response time, equipment protection, and the safety of our community. It should be something our residents are proud of.

My second priority is protecting our shoreline. Precinct One is unique, with roughly 15 miles of coastline. That shoreline is essential to our local economy, our environment, and our quality of life. When we protect it, we protect tourism, small businesses, and the natural resources that make this place special for both locals and visitors.

Commissioners vote on the county budget. What principles guide your decisions when allocating taxpayer dollars?
When I look at the county budget, I treat every dollar as something the public trusted me with, not something I get to spend casually. My first priority is always the basics: safe roads, reliable drainage, strong public safety, and infrastructure that actually works. If we don’t get those right, nothing else matters.

I also believe in spending with the long term in mind. It’s cheaper and smarter to maintain what we already have than to let things fall apart and pay more later. That applies to our roads, our equipment, and even our shoreline and natural resources.

How should the county balance growth, infrastructure needs, and rural or coastal preservation?
Growth is a reality, and it can be a good thing when it’s done responsibly. But growth should never outpace our infrastructure. Roads, drainage, emergency services, and utilities have to be in place first, or we end up paying more later and putting people at risk.

At the same time, we have to protect what makes this area special, our rural character, our coastline, and our natural resources. Those aren’t obstacles to progress. They’re assets. They drive tourism, support local businesses, and define our quality of life.

My approach is practical. Plan ahead, invest in infrastructure early, and protect the land and shoreline.

How would you ensure residents of your precinct feel heard and represented?
I have always believed in an open-door policy, and I truly value a good conversation. My whole career has been built around teamwork, and I know the best solutions come from listening to concerns, to ideas, and to the people who live here. This isn’t about one person’s voice; we are a team in this, working together to build a better Calhoun County for everyone.

What distinguishes you from the other candidates in this race?
I am a lifelong public servant with a career built on teamwork, responsibility, and getting things done. I served honorably in the United States Navy, followed by decades in fire and EMS, where I learned what real leadership looks like under pressure. I have managed people, budgets, and operations where lives depended on good decisions. Along the way, I also built and ran my own businesses, giving me a practical understanding of hard work, fiscal responsibility, and problem solving.
