My Story
What are the top two priorities for your precinct, and how would you advocate for them at the commissioners court level?
The top two priorities for Pct. 2 would be drainage and road maintenance. For drainage I have started work on a Memorandum of Understanding with one of the drainage districts so we can work together to solve some major drainage problems. With the rising cost of materials precinct budgets were barely enough to keep roads maintained. I will fight to keep the budgets we have now so we can actually keep upgrading roads. That being said, when rebuilding a road we use some creative ways to maximize the budget.
Commissioners vote on the county budget. What principles guide your decisions when allocating taxpayer dollars?
Transparency, I believe the taxpayers should know what their money is being spent on. Stopping wasteful spending, the first question I ask is does the county need this and should the taxpayers be paying for it?
How should the county balance growth, infrastructure needs, and rural or coastal preservation?
I think the county should guide growth to areas where roads and utilities already exist. This will help to keep the quiet rural feel in some areas and it will help protect our valuable farmland and keep our coastal areas like wetlands and shorelines from being overdeveloped.
How would you ensure residents of your precinct feel heard and represented?
I have an open door policy, residents are always welcome to stop in and express any concerns or problems they have. I would also invite them to commissioners court to talk about any issues they might have. I have also had residents come to drainage district meetings to voice concerns as well.
What distinguishes you from the other candidates in this race?
My experience. I did the work in the field for over 25 years, so I know what it takes to get the job done. I was foreman for 18 of those years and I learned a lot about leadership. Being commissioner for the last year I have learned what it takes to manage the county from the other side of the desk.
